Let’s face it – who wants to slave away in the kitchen for hours upon hours just to produce a decent meal? No one wants to do that. In fact, most individuals who are responsible for making the family meals prefer to spend less than one hour in the kitchen. That one hour includes all the preparation time, cooking and cleaning up. Is it possible to make a great meal and have the kitchen spotlessly clean in that amount of time? Yes, it is absolutely possible.

The entire idea behind her 30 minute meals is, of course, to be in and out of the kitchen in no time at all. Her 30 minute meal recipes and ideas are not only fast, but incredibly delicious as well. If you’re in the mood for soup, it can be done super fast. If you’re craving more of a satisfying meal such as chicken or lamb, that can be made in only 30 minutes as well. Contrary to what many people may believe, there are not simply a limited amount of recipes that can be successfully made within 30 minutes. I would love to say that I have the time to whip up amazing meals each night. There are a few problems with that thought. For one, I am not the best cook in the world, and secondly, I just don’t have a lot of time. The meals in 30 minutes are great, and they don’t have to be extremely complicated to keep everyone happy with our menu.

Many of the 30 minute meals are so easy that someone like me can do them. I have make many mistakes in the kitchen, and I think it has to do with my short attention span. Finding great meals to make in 30 minutes is just about right, and is something I can concentrate on. These are not your average meals either, so it does require some extra shopping. However, if you can plan your 30 minute meals ahead of time (a week or two ahead) you can get all of your shopping done without worrying about being out of or missing something essential.

You can watch Rachel to get your 30 minute meals, or you can find listings online if you want to plan ahead. You can also find meals in 30 minutes by buying one of her cookbooks. Because she is so popular right now, you can find her books almost anywhere that sells cookbooks, or you can find them easily enough if you do a search online. After a while, you may even be able to come up with some of your own meals that you can make in a half an hour or less. You’ll learn a lot about food and cooking by following along and figuring out how to put things together in a pleasing and fast way.

Terrific 30 minute meals for the busy cook

How many of us have the luxury of spending hours in the kitchen, putting together a gourmet meal for the family dinner? Not many. We simply don't have the time. Bringing dinner to the table quickly is often necessary, but time constraints shouldn't exclude variety, nutrition or that gourmet touch. Careful menu planning and a well-organized pantry can make 30 minute meals a snap. Here are five great tips to help you serve delicious meals that also save time and money.

Do-ahead meals are an indispensable technique for busy cooks. Dishes such as spaghetti sauce, meatloaf and stew all freeze well. Here's an example that shows how to maximize your food prep time. If you're cooking burgers tonight, leave the skillet on low when the burgers are done. Toss another pound of ground beef in the skillet, break it up with the spatula and let it brown while you enjoy your burgers. After dinner, chop an onion, slice a few mushrooms and add to the pan, along with a jar of spaghetti sauce. By the time the dinner table is cleared, you've got  spaghetti sauce. Pack it in containers and slip them in the freezer or frig, all ready to serve another day, with just one skillet to clean. This type of do-ahead meal gives you two or three 30 minute meals in a single effort!

Stews can cook unattended in a slow cooker. When you arrive home a warm, crusty loaf of bread is all you need to fix for a tasty and hearty 30-minute meal. Left over stew can be put in individual containers in the freezer for a quick lunch or dinner.

Efficiency in preparation is key to 30 minute meals. When you make meatloaf, make a triple batch. Separate and season each meatloaf portion for a different taste - cheese and ketchup for one, Italian or Mexican style seasoning for another, with sliced mushrooms garnishing the third. Your initial time investment is just a few minutes more than for a single meatloaf. Again, you save on cleanup of dishes and utensils. Grease each pan and line with foil. You can bake them all at the same time, freezing two for future 30 minute meals.

Here's another technique for easy 30 minute meals: If your family members show up for dinner at different times, slice the cooked meatloaf and wrap in individual packets. This tip is especially useful for lunch or dinner on the run. You can make a sandwich of the slice or serve it with just a salad on the side, while that hungry teen can quickly have a meal of meatloaf, a baked potato and leftover corn on the side.

Simple but elegant meals fit easily into the 30-minute meal plan. Boil some linguine. While it's cooking, soak some dried mushrooms and open a can of alfredo sauce. Garnish the mix with a few snips of fresh parsley and you're ready to eat. Don't forget the garlic bread!
